Horizontal Directional Drilling
Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) is the ideal method for underground installation of gas, electric, water, telecommunication or soil remediation lines - without excavation or trenching. Horizontal directional drilling ensures minimal environmental disruption and is an excellent choice for installations in diverse rock and soil conditions or when drilling under existing structures, roadways/highways, rail lines, or under environmentally sensitive areas such as rivers and parks.
The drill is started above ground and is drilled down to the desired depth and then steered under the crossing. Once the pilot bore is completed, a reamer/backreamer is attached to the drill stem string and pulled back -- enlarging the bore wall to easily accommodate the product wire, conduit or pipe that is then pulled into place.
