Pipe Ramming (Jack & Bore)

Pipe ramming is the ideal method for crossings under highways and roadways, electrical and fiber optics, environmentally sensitive areas like rivers and streams, pipelines, and utilities.

A pneumatic tool and first pipe section are lowered into the starting pit and placed on adjustable bearings. The pipe is then precisely aligned and the tool firmly secured to the pipe by means of chains and straps to ensure that full impact is transmitted to the pipe. The ramming tool is connected to an air compressor and the section driven or hammered into the soil. A second section of pipe welded squarely into place will then be driven in. This process is continued until the bore is completed.

The soil that has accumulated within the pipe can then be removed by using an auger or vacuum excavator, thus forcing soil out and leaving cleanly installed steel sleeves.
